VINTAGE CYCLING PHOTO: June 1942 Lockheed Bicycle Brigade
This photo taken in June of 1942 at the Lockheed Vega Aircraft Corporation shows what was known as the Bicycle Brigade.
Lockheed employees that resided within four miles of the plant could purchase bicycles directly from the company (and resell them back when they no longer needed them) for commuting.
The program was wildly popular and resulted in the sale of over 2,400 bicycles in record time.
This photo was taken at 12:30 am and depicts the swing shift on their way home.
How do you think a program like this would go over today?
